Romantic Proposal at Grey Towers Castle | Arcadia University Engagement

There’s something about photographing a proposal that fills me with joy—the anticipation, the nerves, the quiet build-up… and then that once-in-a-lifetime moment when everything changes. It’s emotional, unscripted, and completely real. And this one, set inside Grey Towers Castle at Arcadia University, felt like stepping straight into a storybook.

This couple’s story came full circle here. As former students of Arcadia, the campus already held meaning—but what he planned took it to another level entirely.

He told her he was invited back to give a talk about his sports experience at Arcadia.

Instead, he led her into the breathtaking Mirror Room—soft candlelight already flickering across the floors, the entire space glowing with warmth and intention. The look on her face said everything. Total surprise.

That’s what I love most about proposals.

The Mirror Room itself is nothing short of magical. Its painted fresco ceiling—created by French artist François Lafon—depicts the four seasons floating among clouds and zodiac paths, surrounded by delicate, ornate detailing. The mirrors, the gilded accents, the intricate plasterwork… it all reflects light in a way that feels almost cinematic. It’s romantic without trying.

Throughout the castle, every corner tells a story. Built between 1893 and 1898 as the home of sugar magnate William Welsh Harrison, the estate was designed by architect Horace Trumbauer and inspired by European castles. Inside, the rooms showcase French Renaissance and Louis XV–style design, featuring hand-carved woodwork, ornate moldings, and rich decorative elements that have withstood the test of time.

And then there’s the Grand Hall—three stories high, with its sweeping staircase and dramatic presence. The deep wood tones, rich reds, and architectural details create a sense of grandeur that feels both historic and intimate at the same time. It’s the kind of place where moments don’t just happen… they linger.

Watching these two stand in the center of it all—surrounded by candlelight, history, and so much intention—was unforgettable. From the quiet nerves before she walked in, to the instant joy when she realized what was happening, every second felt meaningful.

Grey Towers Castle isn’t just a beautiful location—it’s an experience. A place where past and present meet, where ornate design and emotional moments intertwine. For a proposal, it truly is the definition of a storybook setting.

And for me, being there to capture it?
That’s the magic.
